Centre for Microbiology
The Centre for Microbiology, established within the Department of Botany in the academic sessions 2016-17, has dedicated itself to advancing education, research, and application in the field of microbiology. The centre offers a specialized B.Sc. programme combined with Zoology and Botany (BMBZ), with a focus on core areas such as human health, environmental safety, food and dairy industries, pharmaceutical development, industrial microbiology, and research and development.
The centre is equipped with laboratory facilities and a well-stocked library, facilitating hands-on learning, innovative research, and skill development. The faculty members are well qualified with profound experience and stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements in microbial biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, clinical microbiology, and other emerging fields, mentoring students in practical skills and research methodologies.
In addition to undergraduate education, the centre actively participates in postgraduate dissertations across departments like Botany promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. The Centre for Microbiology offers undergraduate students comprehensive support for their career development through a dedicated mentoring that assist with guidance for postgraduate program enrollment, academic pathway planning and competitive exam readiness. The microbiology curriculum is designed in collaboration with experts to ensure practical and industry-relevant training, preparing effectively for employment after graduation as students gain valuable real-world experience that enhance their prospects in the microbiology industry.
Apart from academics and research, the centre regularly organizes seminars, guest lectures, and co-curricular activities to enhance student learning and engagement. Educational tours and field visits are also arranged, providing students practical insights into microbial applications in real-world settings. These activities foster a vibrant learning environment, encouraging students to stay updated with emerging trends and industry practices in microbiology.
With its commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and industry relevance, the Centre of Microbiology aims to produce skilled professionals capable of addressing pressing global health, environmental, and industrial challenges through microbial science.
