Institutional Vision is stated as follows -
“To serve the Church and the Nation by providing for the development of students and others in the college through the sharing and advancement of knowledge, and the building of character through Christian witness and example, so that as citizens, they may realize the dream of the nation builders as enshrined in the constitution, and become instrumental in ushering in a society based on the principles of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, and foster international collaboration with countries sharing the vision.”
Institutional mission is stated as follows -
“Ewing Christian College aspires to be graded within a decade as one of the top ten colleges of the country by bringing about paradigm shift in its educational programme through transformation of its Teacher-centric subject-specific learning approach to Student-centric holistic learning approach, with teachers as facilitators encouraging development of faculty of independent enquiry, innovation and entrepreneurship amongst its students, with an aim to prepare them as future thought leaders in all walks of life affirming to uphold, propagate and realize, as a true nationalist, the ideals of the Republic envisioned in the Constitution.”
College motto isa verse adopted from the Holy Bible, which states that –
“STUDY TO SHOW THYSELF APPROVED UNTO GOD.”
In Hindi, it states –
“APNE KO PARMESHWAR KE GRAHAN YOGYA BANAO.”
It can be inferred from the above that lot of emphasis is laid by the college on holistic development of personality, instead of imparting knowledge in such a way that only uni-dimensional personality with subject specific knowledge may develop. At the same time, the prevalent regulatory structures do not allow inclusion of too many options as part of regular curricula. As such, With these considerations, the curricular content imparted as the compulsory part of the course with number of options provided to students in the form of extra-curricular options, to supplement the curricula.
To this end , various academic programmes are designed as follows-
The College aims to imparta holistic education to all the students seeking graduation degrees in art, science and education streams along with equipping them intellectually, academically and physically. At the same time the College strives to instill moral and ethical values in the students and train them to be comfortably adjusted in the modern academic and social scenario by making them articulate in English, eco-friendly and computer literate so that they become value based responsible citizens empowered to contribute their might towards sustainable regional, national and global growth.
On the basis of the feedback obtained from various stakeholders and contemporary advancements in various disciplines the need to modify the syllabi is identified. The preliminary draft of the newly envisioned topics is prepared and placed for approval by the Board of Studies / Committee of Courses at the departmental level to be reviewed by internal and external subject experts having a sound knowledge of current requirements of public and private sector industries, research bodies and civil societies. Thereafter, the recommendations of the Board of Studies are considered and approved by the Academic Council/ Academic Board of the College comprising members from research bodies and industries and finally the syllabi of various streams stand modified. A large part of curricular design is based on the syllabi of the Allahabad University, the parent university of the College, as the college acts as a feeder to the postgraduate courses of the University. In addition to this various national and international modules including UGC syllabi are consulted for curricular designing.
Employability, innovation and current research aspects are given prime consideration in the curricular design. The syllabi of Arts, Science and Education streams are designed exclusively for strengthening the students to qualify competitive examinations for civil services, entrance tests of professional courses like MBA, MCA and P.G. Programmes of various universities and to become teachers at various levels. The college emphasizes innovation in curriculum design so that the knowledge seekers are made aware of modern developments to become self-reliant.
Teaching is mainly lecture based in which the teachers excel and which is the main strength of the college. However, this mode of teaching-learning is judiciously improvised by many departments by involving the students in seminars, poster-competitions, power point presentations, project work, educational tours, field excursions and industry visits. From 2006 onwards, when the College planned as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’, to convert itself into an e-learning hub, a comprehensive plan was developed and depending on the availability of funds, the project has been completed infrastructurally. Efforts are on to develop the available human resource into using the modern tools effectively in class-room teaching. As part of this project, the college has recently developed a Content Collection and Development Centre which will enable the students’ access to lectures and presentations from locally prepared as well as the globally recognized academicians.
Many faculty members are involved in major and minor research projects funded by the central and state government agencies and have published their results in reputed national and international journals. The relevant and challenging research topics have been incorporated in the curriculum e.g. Green Chemistry, Environmental Pollution and Biodiversity Conservation.
The faculty of the college identifies the developmental needs of society and nation and accordingly tries to design the curricula in arts, science and education streams in such a way that the students of the college are equipped to secure variety of employments in various fields like education, technology, administration, management etc. directly or after obtaining postgraduate degrees in relevant subjects. Further value is added by the “add-on” courses and certificate programs. Various Diploma programs run by the college enable the students to later contribute to national and regional developmental needs. The College keeps the tracking record of its students through its active Alumni Association which organizes it annual meet regularly and publishes a magazine highlighting the activities, achievements and contributions of its members. Also, different departments keep a track record of the passed out graduates, who also maintain links with the students. Many students, who succeed in securing admission in prestigious institutions like IIT ( for PG), DU, JNU, BHU, ISI, IISc and services like IAS etc. also visit college at times and interact with the students.
